Loving
and Learning in Lodi, for Sunday, August 9, 2020
Lodi United Methodist
Church
This week
we are exploring prayers of praise as we look at Luke 1: 46-55. We recall
that like Mary we are called to “magnify the Lord.” We are also reminded
that “Our Spirits are to rejoice in God our Savior.” The rest of this
beautiful hymn of praise captures so much of the Bible’s message about the
nature and purpose of God known most fully in Jesus.
As I read these words of praise, I ask myself who or what do I praise or value in my daily life? Are my praises and values consistent with the Way of Jesus? Who did Jesus praise? What values did He magnify?
As we gather for our first driveway service: Come as You Are in Your Car, I praise God for our Lodi United Methodist Church family of faith. May we grow in grace and goodness together - magnifying the Lord whose grandeur is not the palace of Herod, but the cross and whose power is always love. Pastor Pam

Scripture
Luke 1: 46-55 Mary’s Song
46 And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”
